They cited some examples of religious figures who suffered from mental illness, and Martin Luther the founder of Protestantism was cited as having OCD, Scrupulosity Disorder and possibly depression.
To be perfectly honest, I had never heard of a religiously oriented mental illness. Scrupulosity Disorder is completely new to me. It got me to thinking and wondering.
Is Scrupulosity Disorder real? If so, what are the symptoms? How is it diagnosed? How is it treated? How common is it? How do you seperate Scrupulosity Disorder from sincere or healthy religiosity?
In regards to Martin Luther mental illness. Is this true? (I'd never heard this.) Did he have Scrupulosity Disorder? How common knowledge is this among Protestants? If he had Scrupulosity Disorder, how did this affect his religious views? To what extent (or not) were his interpretations of the scriptures affected by this disorder? To what extent were his views about the Jews affected by this. Are there any thinking on this issue and Martin Luther?
